Bhubaneswar: An application for Geographical Indication (GI) status for Rasabali of Kendrapara is pending with the GI Registry in Chennai.
The consultative group of experts of the registry to evaluate and ascertain the authenticity of the application next month.
Application seeking GI for Rasabali was filed last year by Kendrapara Rasabali Mistanna Nirmata Sangha and Rural Infrastructure Development and Employment.
Preliminary examination of Rasabali chutney for GI tag has been completed. The consultative group is to meet members of the group to decide on granting the recognition.
Based on recommendations of the consultative group and after necessary compliances to conditions, the application will be accepted and published for public to file opposition. If no opposition is received, the GI will be registered.
