Odisha’s Jeypore city, first state-owned airport gets license for commercial flight operation

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: Jeypore Airport in Odisha’s Koraput district became the first State-owned Airport to get licensed for commercial flight operation.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday launched the first commercial flight operation between Bhubaneswar and Jeypore at the Biju Patnaik International airport.

The Jeypore airport has been licensed for scheduled commercial flight operations under the UDAN scheme.

Initially, Jeypore city will be connected by air to the Capital City Bhubaneswar and M/s India One Air has been selected to operate on the above route using a 9-seater scheduled airline on regular days, with an introductory airfare of Rs 999.
This will reduce the travel time between the State Capital and Jeypore town to 1.30 hours.

As per sources, IndiaOne Air will operate the daily flight between Bhubaneswar and Jeypore and Jeypore and Visakhapatnam.

Launching the flight service, Patnaik said the flight operations will give a boost to connectivity, commerce and tourism, fulfilling the longstanding aspirations of the people of the region.

The State Government has developed the Jeypore Airstrip situated in Koraput District into a fully-fledged commercial Airport under the UDAN (Ude Desh Ka AamNaagrik) scheme with the collaborated effort of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt. of India and the Airports Authority of India.

As per the obligations under this scheme, the State Government will provide land, Security & Fire personnel, electricity & water charges, supervising manpower and VGF (viable gap funding).

The Jeypore Airport has officially received its Aerodrome license for 2B category with day VFR operation on October 20 last and it will be the fourth Airport in the State to get a license after Bhubaneswar, Jharsuguda and Rourkela Airport.

The City has emerged as a trade centre of Southern Odisha having lots of manufacturing units. Besides, it has very popular tourist spots & attractive places for visitors and various reputed institutions.
