Odisha Votes : Altogether 36,976 Candidates Elected Uncontested In Panchayat Poll

Bhubaneswar, Jan 26 : Altogether 36,976 candidates have been elected uncontested in the three-tier panchayat elections in Odisha, the States Election Commission (SEC) said on Wednesday . The SEC made the announcement on Wednesday after the last date of withdrawal and final list of candidates was declared on January 25 last. The SEC said out of total 91,890 ward members posts in the panchayats in the state, 36,523 candidates have won the election uncontested.

Similarly 126 out of total 6793 posts of Sarpanchas and 326 out of 6793 Panchayat Samiti members and one out of 853 posts of Zilla Parishad posts have been declared uncontested. As per the notification the panchayat elections will be held in 5 phases in the State on February 16, 18, 20, 22 and 24.

The votes will be counted on February 26, 27 and 28 at block offices. In total 2,29,062 candidates have filed nominations for the panchayat elections. While 1,62,297 have filed nominations for ward members, 34,613 for Sarpanch, 28,153 for Panchayat Samiti members and 3,999 have filed nominations for Zilla Parishad members.
