Odisha Assembly To Elect New Speaker
Bhubaneswar, June 9: The election for new Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly will be held on June 13 next.
The election was necessitated after Surya Narayan Patro resigned from the post of Speaker a day before the cabinet reshuffle on June 4 last on health grounds.
As per a notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat the nomination for the election will be held on June 10.
The Assembly will meet for a day on June 13 to elect the Speaker. All the 147 members have been informed about it.
Sources said a former Parliamentary Affairs Minister and senior BJD leader is likely to file the nomination paper for the post.
Considering the strength of the ruling BJD in the house, he is certain to be elected as the Speaker.
In the 147 Member house, the BJD has 114, BJP 22, Cong 9, CPI-M and Independent have one member each.
