‘No Vehicle Zone’ In Bhubaneswar; Khandagiri-studio Square Road To Remain Closed

Safety brings first aid to the Uninjured, The road between the twin caves of Khandagiri and Udaygiri here will be closed for vehicular movement from Thursday to tourists in the popular tourist site.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken into a view traffic jam and the safety of tourists said an official.

The tourists will have to park vehicles at the parking lot of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the foothills of Udayagiri and the ASI will open a ticket counter there.

Accordingly, a new parking norm will come into force in the area for people visiting the site protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

According to the plan, tourist buses can be parked at the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation site and those coming in personal vehicles can park them in an adjacent ASI parking spot.

“The decision has been taken keeping in mind the tourists who visit the site in large numbers. With the closure of the

road, visitors can comfortably move around both the caves,”. aid Binay Das, additional commissioner, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Both sides of the road passing through Khandagiri-Udayagiri caves will be decorated with flower plants and ornamental trees.

Visitors from Khandagiri Square will have to go to OSRTC bus stand road and commuters from the Khordha side will have to go through AMRI hospital road, Kolathia.

The BMC will put up bollards near Jain Temple and Jayadev Vatika Square to stop the entry of vehicles. However, visitors will be allowed to walk on the road.

Locals, however, claimed they might face some difficulty as it served as an alternative road to the national highway.
