Man Builds Bridges By Mortgaging Wife’s Jewellery In Rayagada

Bhubaneswar: A man in Rayagada district of Odisha mortgaged his wife’s jewellery to build three makeshift bridges over a river and a road that serves as a vital link between several villages.

The man identified as Ranjeet Naik of Gunjaram-Panjara under Dongasil panchayat in Kashipur block of the district was concerned about the safety of his fellow villagers who risked their lives to cross the Bichhala River.

Naik mortgaged his wife’s jewellery to construct the bridges and the road. He was helped by his father to build the bridges connecting Rayagada with Kalahandi and Nabarangpur districts.

The bridge was built with bamboo and wood. Naik’s act of kindness has been lauded by the local community and has been an inspiration to others in the area.
