It Was Like, Operation Successful But Patient Is Dead, Odisha MLAs Dispatched Back With Nothing

By D N Singh

The obvious has happened, as had been predicted in the pages of this site, as regards the fate of the Congress state unit from Odisha which was in Delhi yesterday. It turned out to be a fiasco for Odisha Congress.

Hopes were big and ambitions very high for an overhauling of the organizational structure of the beleaguered state unit. Which had shown symptoms of an incurable derisiveness for last few years and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, had summoned the legislatures, lock-stock and barrel to Delhi, for an anticipated clinical cure.

But what came out in Delhi on May 9 meeting can be summed up as, operation successful but the patient is dead!

Going by what could be gathered from sources among the legislators who met Rahul Gandhi, it was more of a rubbing salt on their injuries than a palliative as expected.

The Congress scion, say the sources requesting anonymity, gave a severe drubbing to all of them for washing dirty linens in public.

He made it clear that, internal bickering within the party should necessarily not have tempted any state legislature to go to the media and further aggravate the situations in the party. It should have been within the party.

What was further disturbing was Rahul’s angry dispositions towards almost all the MLAs with whom he hardly had a minute’s sitting even and rather finished with them in standing postures.

However, he made an exception in the case of the     leader of the opposition Narasingha Mishra with whom he sat for over 15 minutes, the sources put in.

Even with the PCC president Niranjan Patnaik, it was more or less a raw deal as Rahul had a standing chat with Patnaik for two three minutes only.

Which obviously speaks volumes about Rahul’s irritations towards the internecine atmosphere created in Odisha’s Congress unit day in and day out.

For the visiting MLAs it was practically a classic doomsday scenario leaving them sulking in isolations of their own.

Nothing was inspiring nor consoling. Rather it was a repeat of the past, leaving the entire flock of leaders to go for introspection.

So, the major issue about change of PCC chief or organizational changes remain hanging in balance.
