Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of people burned jute stems, also known as Kaunriya Kathis, during Diwali this year in front of Singhadwar of Jagannath Temple.
It marks the ‘Bada Badia Daka’ ceremony in which people honour their ancestors. They burn jute stems to produce fire as a signal to call the ancestors.
The lighting of Kaunriya Kathis had been prohibited for the previous two years due to the pandemic situation.
