Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: Odisha reported 653 new covid positive cases, a jump of 166 more in the past 24 hours taking the tally in the state to 13,20,667. Health and Family Welfare department sources said out of 653 new infections, 384 were recorded from the quarantine centres and 269 as local contact cases.
Sundargarh district reported a maximum of 173 cases followed by Khordha(96), Sambalpur ( 40), Mayurbhanj (33) and Kalahandi (30). These five districts have contributed nearly 58 per cent of the new cases recorded in the state in the past 24 hours.
Official sources said one covid death was recorded in the Balasore district during the completion of the death audit process pushing the total fatalities in the state to 9152.
The total active cases which had declined to below 5000 mark rose to 5213 in the past 24 hours of which Sundargarh district alone accounted for 1241 cases followed by Khordha(692), Sambalpur (377) and Bargarh ( 352). These four districts have accounted for 51 per cent of the total active cases in the state.
Sources said 988 covid patients were cured in the state in the past 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 13,06,249.
The daily Test Positivity Rate(TPR) which was 3.2 per cent increased to 3.59 per cent in the past 24 hours. At least five of the total 30 districts have, however, recorded a TPR above 5 per cent.
