Cyclone Mandous To Cross Tamil Nadu Coast On December 9

Bhubaneswar: The cyclonic storm ‘Mandous’ over Southwest Bay of Bengal moved nearly west-northwestwards with a speed of 08 kmph during past 3 hours, and lay centered at 0230 hours IST of today, December 8, over Southwest Bay of Bengal about 360 km east-northeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka), 480 km east-southeast of Jaffna (Sri Lanka), 530km east-southeast of Karaikal and about 620 km southeast of Chennai.

It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast between Puducherry and Sriharikota with a maximum sustained wind speed of 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 kmph around mid night of December 9.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal on December 8; Southwest Bay of Bengal during December 8 to 10; along and off Sri Lanka coast during December 8 to 9; and along & off Tamilnadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh coasts and Gulf of Mannar during December 8 to 10. Fishermen out at sea advised to return to the coast or move to the safe area.
