UP Says It Opposed Ashish’s Bail
New Delhi, March 29: The Uttar Pradesh government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that it opposed the bail plea in the Allahabad High Court by Union Minister’s son Ashish Mishra over the killings of farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri. In its response to a plea challenging Ashish Mishra’s bail in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, the Uttar Pradesh Government filed its response in the apex court, refuting the charges made by the families of those killed at Lahimpuri Kheri in Uttar Pradesh.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice N V Ramana and also comprising Justices A S Bopanna and Hima Kohli is expected to hear the case on Wednesday. The Uttar Pradesh government told the Supreme Court that the state has taken all efforts to protect the witnesses and families of victims of the case. The state government said in a detailed affidavit that all the witnesses we regularly contacted by the police for appraisal of their security conditions.
The Uttar Pradesh government said it had opposed the bail plea of Ashish Mishra before the Allahabad High Court and the submission in the Supreme Court by the family who alleged that that the State did not effectively oppose the bail application was completely untrue. Advocate Prashant Bhushan on behalf of the victims family members had told the Supreme Court that the main witness was allegedly brutally attacked after the BJP won the Assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh. The family members of the deceased farmers, who were allegedly down by a car allegedly belonging to Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son Ashish Mishra, moved the Supreme Court on February 21 challenging the bail given by the Allahabad High Court.
