The Memories Of Valor 23 Years Back Still Leave Goose-bumps On Day Of Vijay Diwas

Millions in India had Goosebumps those days, 23 years back when our war tanks roared through the mountainous tracks of Kargil. It is not a mere recall about victory or defeat but the valor that kept the moral of Indian defense higher than the altitudes of Everest.

The sounds of artillery fires could never be drowned in the din of enemy firings. It was forward looking show of passion and courage that can never be erased from the mental canvass of Indians.

Today after over two decades, it thrills us while taking a walk down the memory lanes where hundreds of tales of prospects and pitfalls on the way have been crystalised.

There cannot be better demonstrations how India showcased  the near impossible feat achieved by the Indian Army during the two month long Kargil war in 1999.

The victory of the Indian Army over Pakistan in Kargil war is celebrated as Vijay Diwas (victory day) and the main function of the 23rd anniversary will be held tomorrow at the Kargil War Memorial at Drass.

Kargil War 1999: Scenario then, and now

It was a near blitzkrieg when Indian Air Force(IAF) later launched a massive operation and in the 74 days of battles Indian Army managed to win back its territory. That was when Pakistani soldiers and militants from many groups had occupied several peaks from Drass to Batalik sector along the Line of Control (LoC) overlooking the strategic Srinagar- Leh highway.

On the eve of Vijay Diwas, the Veer Naaris, Next of Kins, War Heroes and all the invitees witnessed a narration of these battles at Lamochen View Point, Srinagar based defence spokesman said on Monday.

The recall were as if, the repeat of the days in June and July 1999, those witnessed one of the fiercest retaliation at the Pakistani army and infiltrators who could hardly withstand the ferocity of the battle. The Indian soldiers did pose the response those still must have left bleeding wounds in the enemy.

“It was a walk down the memory lane showcasing the near impossible feat achieved by the Indian Army. The experiences and real life stories shared by Veer Naris and War Heroes filled audience with pride and reminded them of the bravery, dauntless spirit, everlasting zeal and determination of our soldiers who had fought under extremely challenging circumstances,” an Indian military  spokesman was reported as saying.

And most deserving so, the 23rd Anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ comprised a series of events and activities undertaken by Army, Air Force and civil individuals and organizations as a mark of honour and commemoration of the saga of bravery exhibited during the War.
