‘Tharoor Thoughts’ For INC Over Latest Departure Of Ghulam Navi Azad

By Anupama Dash

Aug 29: ‘I personally regret these departures’. This’s how Shashi Tharoor, the learned and party veteran has expressed in his article for an English Daily, over the recent good-bye of veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad from the Congress.

The aftermaths of parting ways and a series of resignations of Veterans from the grand old party- Indian National Congress has obviously rose many vital questions to the Party Chief, Gandhi dynasty and veteran party loyalists. He also mentioned “as a signatory of the so-called ‘G-23’ letter, I should say that it reflected concerns building up over many months among party members and well-wishers who wanted a re-energised Congress.

These concerns were about the party’s functioning, not its ideology or values. Our only intention was to strengthen and revive the party, not to divide or weaken it. We sought an effective Congress party to challenge what the BJP is doing to the country.

It’s pertinent here to mention that, the Congress announced that the election for its new President will be held on October 17 as a meeting of its Working Committee – the party’s highest decision-making authority – on 28 Oct has approved the poll schedule.

Congress Election Authority Chairman Madhusudan Mistry announced the dates of the polling process after approval from the CWC, in its meeting held virtually and attended by G23 leader Anand Sharma, who had recently quit as the chief of a party panel for the upcoming Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections.

The date of issuance of notification is September 22, nominations can be filed from between 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. from September 24 to 30 while scrutiny will be done on October 1. Last date of withdrawal is October 8 and date of polling is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on October 17 at all PCC headquarters. Counting will be held on October 19.
