BJP leaders have turned ‘thekedars’, common man missing elected govt: Azad

Jammu, Dec 22: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said that the BJP leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are happy even in the absence of popular government because they have turned ‘thekedars’ and are busy in getting every small and big contract.
“They (BJP leaders) are happy because they are being benefitted this way or that way,” Azad said while addressing a public rally in Bhaderwah town of Doda district on Wednesday.
“Earlier they were either ministers or MLAs but now they have turned ‘thekedar’ (contractors) and are busy in getting every big or small contract,” alleged the former Union Minister.
It is either power projects, road projects, developmental or infrastructure, every panch, sarpanch, leader of BJP is running after contracts, said Azad adding, “why would they want to have an elected government if they are already happy.”
The one who is suffering is are the common people, especially those who are not affiliated to any political party, said Azad and added, “where will they go? They are suffering too much.”
“They (BJP) earlier formed a coalition government in 2015 with the PDP and wanted to rule the government,” said Azad adding, “they are very keen to form the government but how long they will run the show, is a million dollar question.”
“Elected government is urgently needed for the welfare of the people,” he said.
