New Delhi, Jan 14 : Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has been recovered from East Delhi’s Ghazipur Flower Market situated near the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, which is a concerning issue for the security personnel.

A senior officer of Delhi Police, on the condition of anonymity, said that every year, police tightens the security arrangements before Republic Day celebrations. The security has been increased this year too.

The security review meetings have been conducted on a weekly as well as daily basis, said the official.

Police personnel have been deployed at strategic points and pickets have been increased for checking vehicles as well as people.

The anti-sabotage checking and tenant verification are being conducted to keep strict vigil to avert any untoward incident in the national capital before Republic Day.

“The manual policing has already increased and checks at Delhi-UP borders have started. Proper security checks have been done in the area,” said R Sathiyasudaram, DCP, Shahdara Delhi.

“Ahead of Republic Day, police have intensified patrolling, conducting old car dealer checks, tenant verifications and deploying extra pickets on strategic points to keep vigil on anti-social elements,” said Deepak Yadav, DCP, New Delhi.

“Documents of the tenants and foreigners, who have been living in the area, have been checked by the police,” Yadav added.
