Rahul Gandhi Asked To Appear Before ED On June 20

New Delhi, June 17: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate on June 20, party’s media department Chief Jairam Ramesh said on Friday.

“The ED has just replied formally acceding to Shri. Rahul Gandhi’s request and has fixed his next date of appearance on Monday, June 20th,” Ramesh said in a tweet. Rahul Gandhi had written to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to postpone his questioning on Friday, since he is tied up with matters related to the health of his mother Sonia Gandhi.

The former Congress President was summoned by the ED in the National Herald case. He was questioned for around 10 hours each day on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and had sought an exemption from questioning on Thursday to visit his mother. The next questioning was scheduled on Friday, but was deferred after his request to the ED.
In a letter written to the probe agency, Rahul had said that he could not join the process of interrogation on Friday, and sought an extension for a few days to look after his mother.

Sonia Gandhi is presently in the Ganga Ram hospital undergoing treatment for post Covid complications including a fungal infection in her lower respiratory tract. She continues to be under observation.
As per the complaint filed in the court of the Metropolitan Magistrate, Associated Journals Limited (AJL) took an interest-free loan of Rs 90.25 crore from Indian National Congress, which was not paid back.
Congress has maintained there is no money laundering involved, and has called the summon a politically motivated move.
