New Delhi, Jan 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday appealed to Members of Parliament across party lines to join in productive and fruitful discussions and debates in the Budget Session that would help take the economy to greater heights.
Addressing the media ahead of the Budget Session, the PM, referring to the month-long upcoming elections to five states, also acknowledged that frequent elections cause disruptions in Parliament’s functioning. But he said that members must not ignore Parliament for the sake of the elections.
The PM said: “There are many opportunities for India in today’s global situation. This Budget Session provides a glimpse to the world not only of India’s economic progress, but also of its vaccine campaign, of India’s own indigenous vaccines, and helps inculcate confidence in India among the world.
“I hope that all members, all political parties, hold high-level and open discussions and debates to take the country on the path of progress. It will definitely provide momentum to that. “It is a fact that frequent elections affect Parliament sessions, and even affect the discussions. But I appeal to all Members, that while elections are important, and they will continue to be held, but Parliament is equally important.”
“This Budget Session in a way is important as it draws up the blue-print of the economy for the entire year, and that is why it is very important. “The more fruitful we make the Budget Session with our commitment, it will help take our economy to higher levels, and this is a big opportunity for that,” he appealed.
“I hope that the discussions are free and constructive, aimed at human welfare and with good intentions,” he said. The Winter Session saw frequent disruptions by opposition members.
