Man Held For App which Tormented Women
New Delhi, Jan 6: Delhi Police on Thursday said they have arrested a young man who they said was the “main conspirator” behind Bulli Bai App in which photos of women from a religious community were uploaded with the intention of shaming them.
K P S Malhotra, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit), identified him as Niraj Bishnoi of Jorhat in Assam. He is a student of B.Tech Second Year in Bhopal.
The police said he allegedly created the App on GitHub and was its main Twitter account holder.
The Delhi Commission for Women on Monday issued summons to Delhi Police seeking a list of people arrested in both the ‘Sulli deal’ and ‘Bulli Bai’ cases.
The Commission also sought details of action taken against the ‘GitHub’ App by Delhi Police along with steps taken in preventing platforms like ‘GitHub’ from uploading such derogatory and illegal content in future.
The Commission highlighted a similar matter which had come to light in 2021 wherein pictures of women and girls from a community were uploaded on ‘GitHub’ App under the name ‘Sulli Deals’.
In that case, the Delhi Police registered an FIR in July last year after the DCW’s intervention.
