Maharashtra Moves SC On OBC Issue
New Delhi, Jan 17: The Maharashtra government moved the Supreme Court on Monday seeking its direction to recall its December 15 order directing the State Election Commission to revert the 27 per cent seats reserved for Other Backward Class (OBC) in local body elections to the “general category”.
Senior lawyer Shekhar Naphade, appearing for Maharashtra, urged a Bench headed by Justice A. M. Khanwilkar to hear the matter on Wednesday.
The apex court had ordered the poll panel to also issue a fresh notification declaring the 27 per cent seats as belonging to the general category within a week.
Justice Khanwilkar said: “We will hear the matter day after tomorrow, January 19, Wednesday.”
