Narinder Batra Resigns From IOA, IOC, FIH Posts

New Delhi, July 18: Sports administrator Narinder Dhruv Batra resigned from his positions as Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief, International Hockey Federation (FIH) President and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member on Monday.

Batra wrote three separate letters to the IOA secretary general, the FIH Executive Board and IOC President Batra stating that he is resigning from all the posts due to personal reasons.

In a brief message to IOA’s Executive Board, he said: “Due to personal reasons, I submit my resignation from the post of president for which I was elected in 2017. Thank you for your support and guidance.

“Due to personal reasons, I submit my resignation from the post of president FIH,” Batra stated in a letter to FIH.

He had been re-elected as FIH President at the 47th FIH Congress in Lausanne, Switzerland, last year, and his term was to end in 2024.

Batra wrote to Bach: “Due to personal reasons, I submit my resignation from the post of IOC member. Thank you for your support and guidance.”

In a similar letter to IOC President Thomas Bach, he wrote: “Due to personal reasons, I submit my resignation from the post of IOC member. Thank you for your support and guidance.”

Batra became an IOC member in 2019. The development came two weeks after Delhi High Court restrained Batra from discharging functions as President of IOA.

A vacation bench of Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma stated that Anil Khanna, Senior Vice President will take over the duties and responsibilities of the President and further directed that Khanna shall perform any other tasks/ functions as directed by the President, the Executive Council or the General Meeting.

On May 25, Batra had been removed from the position of Life Member held by him in the National Sports Federation (NSF) by the court citing it ‘unconstitutional’ and ‘illegitimate’ under the sports code.
