Indian Student Killed In Shelling In Kharkiv
New Delhi, Mar 1: A student from Karnataka was killed on Tuesday in a missile attack in Kharkiv, in eastern Ukraine, the government said, in news that shocked the country.
The student, identified as Naveen SG, hailed from Chalageri in Karnataka.
The MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said in the ministry is in touch with his family, and that Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is calling up the ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate India’s demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones.
The Indian ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine are also doing the same.
“With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family.
“We convey our deepest condolences to the family. “Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones.
“Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine,” he said.
The student was killed in shelling when he was standing with a few others to get food near the Governor House when it was attacked.
