India Registers 1,79,723 Covid Cases, 146 Fatalities

New Delhi Jan 10: India recorded 1,79,723 new Covid cases and 146 related deaths, taking the country’s tally to 3,57,07,727 and death toll to 4,83,936 as per the Union Healthy Ministry data on Monday.

The active caseload currently stands at 7,23,619, while 46,569 people recovered, taking the total tally of recoveries to 3,45,00,172.

The active cases comprise 2.03 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 96.62 per cent.

Daily positivity rate is at 13.29 percent while the weekly Positivity Rate is at 7.92 per cent .

Meanwhile, India’s Omicron tally on Monday reached 4033, of which, 1552 have either recovered or been discharged.

Maharashtra topped the count with 1,216 cases, followed by Rajasthan (529), Delhi ( 513).

Delhi has reported 22,751 new Covid-19 cases, the highest since May 1 last year, said the state health department on Sunday.

The total positivity rate went up to 23.53 per cent. The number of active cases stood at 60,733 while over 10,000 people recovered.

On the vaccination front, the government has been continuously speeding up the vaccination drive across the country.

“India has administered 151.94 doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far under the ongoing nationwide vaccination drive”.

More than 156.05 crores vaccine doses were provided to States/UTs so far.

Over 17.57 crores balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered , the ministry said.

Meanwhile, India has started the administering the third ‘precautionary doses’ to priority groups — health care workers, frontline workers and those aged above 60 years with comorbidities on Monday.

According to the Centre’s directions, the third dose will be of the same vaccine as the first two doses, after an interval of nine months.
