Follow Up: Mumbai Fire, PM Announces Compensation

New Delhi, Jan 22 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF for the next of kin of those who lost their lives in building fire in Tardeo, Mumbai, .

The injured would be given Rs 50,000, the PMO said.

Extending condolences to the bereaved families, the PMO tweeted, “Saddened by the building fire at Tardeo in Mumbai. Condolences to the bereaved families and prayers with the injured for the speedy recovery.”

“An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the building fire in Tardeo, Mumbai. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000 each,” the PMO added.

Seven people were killed in a major fire which broke out on the 18th floor of a 20 storey residential building here on Saturday, officials said.

The tragedy occurred in the Kamala residential building near Nana Chowk at Tardeo in central Mumbai.

Seventeen others sustained injuries and were rushed to the Bhatia Hospital. Three of them were warded in the Intensive Care Unit as their condition was said to be critical, UNI reported earlier.

Fire Brigade sources the fire broke out around 0730 am hours. Nineteen residents were rescued.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
