Centre Asks Delhi, NCR To Jointly Battle Covid-19

New Delhi, Jan 7: Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla has asked authorities in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) to come together to tackle Covid-19, keeping in view the “close knit urban structure of the NCR Region”.

An official statement on Friday quoted Bhalla as saying that the health infrastructure in all the districts of Delhi-NCR should be immediately strengthened.

He stressed that it should be ensured that oxygen supply equipment is fully functional and buffer stocks of essential drugs are maintained.

The Home Secretary met officials from Delhi and the NCR on Thursday evening in view of a surge in Covid-19 cases, especially of the Omicron variant, in Delhi-NCR. The meeting included officials from Delhi and nine bordering districts of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.

He said the state and the local administration should strictly enforce the norms of Covid appropriate behaviour.

He called for more testing in all Delhi-NCR districts.

The meeting was attended by V K Paul, Member (Health) NitiAayog, and other officers of the Central government and Chief Secretaries or Additional Chief Secretaries of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.
