Syria Becomes 103rd Member Of International Solar Alliance

Damascus/New Delhi, Feb 16 : Syria has become the 103rd member to join the International Solar Alliance, a global green initiative led by India. Syrian Foreign and Expatriates Minister Fayssal Mikdad signed the framework agreement to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) on Tuesday in Damascus, in the presence of Indian Ambassador to Syria M S Kanyal.

After the signing ceremony, Minister Mikdad spoke about the great damage affected to the electricity sector in Syria as a result of the terrorist attacks that targeted power plants and the infrastructure of the electrical network. Minister Mikdad expressed the hope that Syria’s joining the solar energy alliance would open the door to developing joint projects that would contribute to solving the problems of the electric power sector in the country, Syrian News Agency reported.

He hailed the standing cooperation between Syria and India, which indicated that the two countries have great potential that should be invested to serve the interests of the two friendly countries and peoples. The Indian ambassador expressed his happiness at Syria’s joining the International Solar Alliance, in which India plays a pioneer role, stressing that there are many advantages to joining the alliance, as Syria could benefit from them in supporting its electric power sector and supply it with new sustainable resources. The ambassador stressed the importance of developing economic relations between Syria and India in all fields, the agency said.
