Shimla city among possible venue for G20
Shimla, May 8 : Shimla which is queen of hills may be a possible venue to hold G20 summit next year. A meeting held at Rozna Hall in Shimla presided by the Deputy Commissioner Shimla on Thursday with a delegation of officials of Indian External affairs ministry which was in the town to evaluate if it could be a suitable venue for the G-20 summit in the year 2023. The Deputy Commissioner informed that India is hosting the G-20 summit in the year 2023 ,however, pros and cons or merits and demerits were discussed in the meeting. It was also suggested by the members to make the town auxiliary venue where officials of G-20 could hold meetings ,however, heads of state may meet in the main venue. Indian External affairs ministry is trying to rope in every state as well as every single major city of the country during the summit. On minutes of meeting discussed, it was decided that the central government would take final call on the role of Shimla to host G20.It has been informed that DC assured Ministry of External Affairs to do every effort to meet the expectation required for hosting G20 in Shimla. Many prominent officers including Additional District Magistrate (Protocol) , Additional Superintendent of Police and Additional Commissioner Municipal Corporation Shimla were present. Shimla is a historic place where Mahatma Gandhi visited seven to eight times to attend various pre-independence and freedom struggle meeting held between Indian National Congress and Britishers also the Simla Agreement was signed between India and Pakistan on 2 July 1972 in Shimla by former Prime minister Indira Gandhi and Pakistan President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
