Measles outbreak In Afghanistan Kills 74 Children

Kabul, Feb 6 : 74 children in Afghanistan have lost their lives due to the outbreak of measles in the northern province of Badakhshan, the local media sources reported on Sunday. “There had been pockets of measles cases across several Badakhshan districts, including Kuf Ab, Darwaz, Kohistan as well as provincial capital Faizabad city and its outskirts in the past two months,” Xinhua News Agency quoted Maazudin Ahmadi, head of the provincial Information and Culture Directorate as saying.
“At least 74 children died after being infected with the disease in Kuf Ab and Kohistan districts,” Ahmadi added. Many of the children who died were living in areas with no access to public health facilities, workers and vaccinations.
