Kashmir Files Spread Hatred: Yechury

Srinagar, March 24: Communist Party of India (Marxist) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday said the Bollywood film “The Kashmir Files” was creating a “wedge” and “spreading hatred” between the country’s two major communities. “‘The Kashmir Files has been made to generate violence and hatred among the communities… If this hatred is not stopped, it will put the whole country in trouble,” Yechury told the media here.
He said polarization through “The Kashmir Files” was dangerous. “They (referring to the Prime Minister) say let others make movies as well. But did the government allow people to watch Parzania, a movie on Godhra rights? On Kashmiri Pandits’ migration role, the role of the then Governor should be investigated,” Yechuri said.
He said the CPI (M) has fought for the rights of the displaced Kashmiri Pandits. Not only Kashmiri Pandits but Sikhs and Muslims also died in the violence, he added. He said the way the BJP was doing politics on the basis of hatred will have serious repercussions. Yechuri batted for a broader secular front to tackle the BJP. “Our main focus is to save the country and the constitution, For that BJP has to be isolated and defeated. Leftist and democratic forces have to be strengthened. A broad secular front is the need of the hour,” he said. Yechury said the previous governments in the Centre also did not fulfill their promises to overcome alienation in Jammu and Kashmir.
