Donald Trump’s Social Media App Truth Social Launched
Washington, Feb 21: Former US president Donald Trump’s on Monday launched his new social media venture, titled Truth Social, on Apple’s App Store.
This marks the return of the former president to social media after he was banned from several platforms last year. The app was made available for download shortly before midnight eastern time and was automatically downloaded to Apple users who had pre-ordered the app, The Guardian reported.
The app generated quite an interest as some users had difficulty registering for an account or were added to a waitlist with a message.
Trump was banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube after the US Capitol was attacked by his supporters in January 2021.
Trump was accused of posting messages which incited his supporters to invade the US Capitol when the legislatures were preparing to announce the results of the presidential elections.
Led by the former Republican US congressman Devin Nunes, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), they hope that through Truth Social, they will join a growing number of technology companies that are positioning themselves as champions of free speech and hope to draw users who feel their views are suppressed on more established platforms.
