Prez Kovind joins 50th Victory Day parade in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 16: A 122-member tri-services contingent from Indian Armed Forces participated in the 50th Victory Day parade on Thursday at National Parade Ground in Dhaka watched by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind Bangladesh President M Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and other dignitaries.

Kovind, who was the Guest of Honour, observed the marching contingents at the National Parade Ground in Dhaka. On this occasion, a 122-member tri-services contingent from the Indian Armed Forces also participated in the parade.

Both countries celebrated on December 16 as the Victory Day to mark the win of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini over Pakistan in the fight for Bangladesh’s independence.

In the evening, Kovind and the first lady Savita Kovind will participate in the Independence Day celebrations and the concluding ceremony of birth centenary celebrations of Bangandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the Parliament.

The President will be delivering a speech as a Guest of Honour during the celebrations.

On the last leg of his three-day visit, Kovind will be interacting with a cross section of Bangladeshi society and is also scheduled to meet the liberation war fighters of Bangladesh, Muktijoddhas. He will be visiting places of cultural and historical importance in Dhaka before returning back to India.
