CBI Officer Told To Reimburse Aakar Patel
New Delhi, April 7: A Delhi court on Thursday directed a CBI officer to reimburse the money former Amnesty International India chief Aakar Patel had spent to purchase an air ticket to the US before he was stopped from boarding a flight due to a Look Out Circular (LOC).
Patel, allegedly linked to a case of violation of the Foreign Contributions Regulation Act (FCRA), alleged that he was stopped by the immigration authorities at Bangalore while boarding a flight to the US. Counsel for Patel submitted that despite an order by a Gujarat court granting him permission to travel to the US, the action was taken against him.
He said Patel had to attend a lecture series in various universities till May 30 and sought permission to leave. Counsel for CBI submitted that after taking approval from the competent authority, a request was sent to the Home Ministry to issue a LOC against Patel. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pawan Kumar after hearing arguments directed the CBI officer to reimburse the cost of the flight ticket to Patel.
