Justice Raja Appointed Madras HC Acting CJ
Chennai, Sep 19: Senior most Judge Justice T.Raja was today appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
The appointment was made by President Droupadi Murmu, a notification from the Union Ministry for Law and Justice
said.
Justice Raja will be Acting CJ from September 22, a day
after the present ACJ Justice M Duraiswamy will attain
superannuation on September 21.
“In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the
Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint,
Justice T Raja, senior-most Judge of the Madras High
Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief
Justice of that High Court, with effect from 22.09.2022
consequent upon the superannuation of Justice
M Duraiswamy, Judge, who is performing the duties
of the Chief Justice, Madras High Court,” the Union
Law and Justice Ministry notification said.
Justice Raja was elevated to the Madras HC as the
additional judge in 2009. He got enrolled with the bar
council in 1988 and started his practice in Madras
High Court and later shifted to New Delhi to practice
at the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court and Central
Administrative Tribunals.
He was appointed as the Additional Advocate General
in 2008.
Justice Raja will be in the service till May 23, 2023.
