Spike in Dengue Cases in South Andaman; Andaman MP urges for Preventive Measures

 

Port Blair, June 10 : The lone Member of Parliament of Andaman & Nicobar Islands Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of A&N Administration to issue necessary directions to the Health Department and Port Blair Municipal Council to step up anti-dengue drives by forming quick action teams and also spread massive awareness among the public against Dengue.

In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Member of Parliament pointed out that there is a spike in Dengue cases in the South Andaman region.

He added that dengue is preventable by avoiding mosquito bites and hence there is a need to spread awareness among masses to take necessary precaution against this mosquito-borne viral disease.

He requested the Chief Secretary to issue necessary directions to the Health Department and Port Blair Municipal Council to step up anti-dengue drive.

Meanwhile, a senior officer of Andaman’s Directorate of Health Services, who does not want his name to be quoted, has also accepted that the Dengue cases are on the rise in A&N Islands.

He said that the surge in Dengue cases is majorly seen in the South Andaman District.

The Health official has urged islanders not to store water in open spaces for more than 07 days

as it becomes the breeding ground for Aedes Mosquitoes and increases the risk of spreading

Dengue in the area.
