Odisha: Daily Covid Log Scaring

Bhubaneswar, Jan 07: The daily covid cases in Odisha further jumped to 2703 in the past 24hours. Health and Family Welfare department sources said all the 30 districts in the state reported covid positive cases and the total cumulative tally in the state rose to 10,62,475.

Almost after 160 days, the daily covid load in the state surpassed 2700 marks, rising at an alarming rate during the last one week from a mere 228 to 2703 cases.

As many as 1579 infections were reported from the quarantine centres and 1124 as local contact cases the past 24 hours and 409 positive cases were found in the age group of 0 to 18 years.

Kordha district topped the district tally with 926 new cases (34.25 per cent) followed by Sundargarh ( 454), Cuttack ( 191), Sambalpur ( 176) and Jharsuguda( 106). These five districts together accounted for 68.6 per cent of the total new cases in the state.

The test positivity rate which was less than one per cent last week jumped to 3.91 per cent on Friday.
Khordha district with 7.1 per cent and Sundargarh district with 6.1 per cent TPR declared as the yellow zone. Other two districts that reported high TPR were Sambalpur (4.2 per cent) and Balasore ( 2.7 per cent).
Meanwhile, the active cases in the state showed a five and half times rise in the last one week from 1500 cases to 8237.

Khordha district with 3004 active cases declared as Red zone while Sundargarh district with 1068 cases remained in the yellow zone. Cuttack district has reported 648 active cases followed by Sambalpur (504). These four districts together accounted for 63.42 per cent of the total active cases in the state.

The covid death toll in the state rose to 8468 after one death was reported from Khordha district while the total recoveries in the state surged to 10,45,718 with 204 covid patients being cured of the virus on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the new covid guidelines with several restrictions announced by the state government to contain the spread of coronavirus came into force in the state on Friday.

The government has imposed night curfew from 9 PM to 5 AM every day in all urban areas in the state, allowed the offices to function with 50 per cent staff and suspended the physical classes up to standard XII besides imposing tough restrictions on gatherings, holding picnics and prohibiting political, social and religious gatherings.
