Global Covid Cases Crosses 500 Million
Washington, April 13: As a fresh surge of coronavirus cases are being reported in several countries, the global coronavirus cases on Wednesday crossed 500 million cases and the death toll was more than 6 million.
The latest Johns Hopkins University said in its latest data that the total number of Covid cases reached 500,937,232 and the global death toll was 6,185,548. As per the data, the US remains worst-hit country with 80,478,089 cases.
In Shanghai, the Chinese financial centre, the residents have been living in lockdown for past several days.
According to Xinhua, South Korea has reported 195,419 new Covid-19 cases. Meanwhile, over 11 billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administrated around the world since the beginning of the pandemic. Nuvaxoid coronavirus vaccine, developed by the US pharmaceutical company Novavax, has been given a temporary permission to be used in Switzerland, Sputnik quoted the state’s medical watchdog Swissmedic as saying.
“Swissmedic has authorised the Nuvaxovid vaccine from manufacturer Novavax for people aged 18 and over. According to the documentation assessed by the Swiss Agency for Therapeutic Products, the level of protection afforded seven days after the second dose of the vaccine is approximately 90 percent”, the statement added.
