Bengal Reports 3608 New Covid Cases, 36 Deaths

Kolkata, Jan 27 (UNI) West Bengal on Thursday reported 3608 new Covid cases, 1361 less than the previous day, while 36 people died of the viral disease, according to the state health department. On Wednesday, the state had logged 4969 cases.
Thirty six more people succumbed to the disease during the last 24 hours, taking the overall toll to 20,481. North 24 Parganas district accounted for the most number of cases – 524, followed by Kolkata at 423. In South 24 parganas district, the number of new cases increased to 411, followed by Nadia (232), Birbhum (182), Jalpaiguri (171), Coochbehar (151), Purba Bardhaman (150), Hooghly (133), Paschim Medinipur (131), Bankura (128), Howrah (122), the health department bulletin said.
The state’s overall tally of infection has now shot up to 19,82,862. Total active cases on Thursday is 55,725. North 24 Parganas topped the fatalities over the last 24 hours with 14 deaths followed by Kolkata (8) The positivity rate is 9.02 percent, while the discharge rate stood at 96.16 percent.
