Panic of another phase of Omicron again hangs over India. In a recent notification the Union Ministry of Health turning the pages back has advised to go back to the old guidelines as XBB variant has assumed a menacing shape in many countries and its impact on India cannot be played down.

The government notification says that, everyone has to wear mask because the new variant of the Covid Omicron XBB is very elusive as no particular symptom manifest, its spread is fast and difficult to detect correctly.

However, the symptoms of the new variant are like: There is no cough, there is no fever.

But there will be limited number of these such as 1. Joint pain 2. Headache, 3.Pain in the neck 4. Upper back pain, 5. Pneumonia and 6. No usual appetite.

It is said that, Omicron XBB is 5 times more virulent than Delta variant and has a high mortality rate than others.

What is more worrisome is that, it takes less time for the condition to reach extreme severity and sometimes there are symptoms.

Lets be more vareful:

The strain of the virus is not found in the nasopharyngeal region and directly affects the lungs for a relatively short period of time.

Nasal swab tests are often negative for Covid Omicron and the cases of false negative nasopharyngeal tests are on the rise. Which means the virus can spread in the community and directly infect the lungs, causing viral pneumonia which in turn causes acute respiratory diseases.

Which explains why the Covid Omicron virus is more lethal, contagious and highly virulent.

So, even in open spaces there must be distance and wear double layer masks, wash hands regularly as it is very asymptomatic. It can be more dangerous than the Covid first phase menace.
