As many as 650 active Maoist supporters surrender in Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 : More than 650 active Maoist Supporters including 350 militias, Village Committee Members (VCMs) and Chetana Natya Mandali Members (CNM) belong to Odisha and Andhra Pradesh surrendered before the security personnel in Malkangiri on Saturday.
DGP office sources here said the Maoist supporters of villages Chintangar, Dagudubuli, Jumdam, Kotiyaduru, Kottauru, Limatam, Mandapalli, Puruna Gajed, Singavaram and Sunamugoyi of Dhuliput GP, Boteru, Suapalli and Neredupalli of Rollagedda GP under Papermetla POlice Station of Malkangiri district and Jodiguda, Gunjuvada and Mettaguda villages of Jamiguda GP and Tagupadu, Kondrum of Injeri GP under Pedabailu POlice station of Alluri Sitharam Raju district of AP surrendered before Malkangiri Police and BSF at Jantapayi (Papermetla) .
The Maoist supporters surrendered in presence of Rajesh Pandit, DIG, S.W.R., Koraput, Nitesh Wadhwani,SP, Malkangiri, Sailaendra Kumar Sinha, DIG, BSF, Malkangiri and Sunil Kumar Minj, Commandant, 9th Bn, Chitrakonda.
All these remote villages are located on Odisha-Andhra Pradesh border and was the erstwhile stronghold of Maoists.
These Maoist Supporters used to assist Maoists in violent activities and were involved in killing of Security Forces and Civilians. They were also supplying logistics to them.
The surrendered militias/ supporters of Odisha and bordering areas of Andhra Pradesh exhibited
their opposition towards the Maoist ideology by burning the dress materials and effigies of Maoists and gave slogans “Maobadi Murdabad, Ama Sarkar Jindabad” in front of media people before surrendering.
Swabhiman Anchal, comprising of nine GPs and 182 villages, which was safe haven of Maoists of Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) of the CPI (Maoist) for more than two decades, is undergoing fast turnaround.
The construction of Gurupriya bridge and special developmental packages of the State Government coupled with the strategic deployment of Security Forces inspired the villagers to join the mainstream.
Gurupriya Bridge was inaugurated by Chief Minister in 2018 which heralded the series of developmental activities like construction of new roads, bridges, project to supply drinking water, electricity to all the houses of the area. Medical facilities like boat Ambulance services have been started.
Many roads and bridges have been completed. Pisciculture has been started in a big way. Many power boats have been given to GPs for transportation. Mobile towers installation has been taken
up on priority basis which Motivated them to join the mainstream and take part in the development process.
Earlier in between June 2, 2022 and September 17 ,2022 over 1600 Maoist supporters had surrendered before Police and BSF in Malkangiri.
