Naveen Patnaik Highlights The Role Of Media In His Speech At ‘Prajatantra’ Foundation Day

Role of the media in a democratic structure is paramount.

While speaking at the 75th Foundation Day of ‘Prajatantra’, a premier Odia daily, the chief minister Naveen Patnaik has laid emphasis on the role of media.

“It should be the endeavor to uphold our great cultural heritage, moral values and promote national integration and communal harmony” the chief minister said laying extra emphasis on the media that, how the “media should discharge its duties without any fear or favour”.

Raising a vital point the CM said that, “media runs on the basis of peopel’s trust. It is therefore expected that media should prioritise the real issues of people rather than politics. Media essentially should be the voice of people, the CM of Odisha undelined.

He said that, India is led by a strong democratic value system. Our country stands tall on this foundational principle and he further said that, “ our democratic values have helped us to steer successfully through all the trials and tribulations in the course 9of these 75 glorious years”.

“Media being the voice of people must reflect our democratic value system and take a neutral stand in every aspect of the society” Patnaik said adding that “ whether it is print, electronics or social media, it is the duty of every media house to maintain dignity and keep the secuar principles in mind”.

“Truth and non-violence are the cardinal principles that guided our freedom struggle’ the chief minister urged the people to “pledge together to preserve and strengthen these values in every sphere of life”.
