REVOLUTIONARY ENDEAVOUR: Utkal Varsity Organises Workshop On Media And Gender Attribution
Bhubaneswar, Feb 23: Indian culture has always spoken in favour of gender equality and since time immemorial women have held important positions in Indian society but the current social atmosphere does not reflect the same, said Chairman of PG Council, Utkal University Prof. Basant Kumar Mallick here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating a workshop on ‘Introspection of Media and Gender Attribution” organised by Masters’ Programme in Journalism & Mass Communication(MJMC) Utkal University, Bhubaneswar Prof. Mallick said media plays a great role in maintaining gender equality in heterogeneous society like India.
Theme speaker and head of the department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Berhampur University Dr. Bandita Panda made a vivid presentation highlighting different dimensions of gender attribution in India through several case studies. Expressing her concern, she said till today, the country has failed to make adequate security arrangements for women. Numbers of rapes and molestations are increasing with every passing day as the authorities are in a slumber, she added.
Among others, eminent senior journalist and motivational speaker Dr. Ashok Panda, head of Public Administration Department Prof. Padmalaya Mahapatra, Assistant Professor Dr. Jyotirmayee Tudu, Dr. Hemanta Kumar Dash and Dr. Ramakanta Mahananda also spoke on the occasion.
