Sensex Drops 621.31 Pts

Mumbai, Jan 6: Snapping rally of last four sessions, the BSE Sensex on Thursday tanked 621.31 pts to settle at 59,601.84 as selling was seen in Realty, IT, Technology and Energy stocks amid weak global cues.
The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 179.35 pts at 17,745.90.
The sensex opened on a negative note at 59,731.75 fell 492 pts. It remained negative throughout the day, as it slumped 933 pts at 59,290.58, days low, before closing at 59,601.84, down 621.31 pts from its previous close.
The sensex registered days high and low at 59,781.95 and 59,290.58 respectively.
The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,797.95 and 17, 655,55 respectively.
In sectoral Realty was a major loser, down 1.48 pc followed by IT by 1.39 pc, Energy by 1.29 pc, Technology by 1.08 pc and Materials by 0.71 pc.
In scrips, Ultracemco, a major loser, down 2.58 pc at Rs 7457.95 followed by Tech Mahindra by 2.42 pc to Rs 1694, HCL Technology by 2.01 pc to Rs 1285, HDFC by 2.01 pc to Rs 2619 and Reliance Industries by 1.87 pc to Rs 2420.
The gainers were IndusInd Bank by 1.74 pc to Rs 919.65, Bharti Airtel by 1.64 pc to Rs 711.50, Maruti Suzuki by 1.13 pc to Rs 7861.15, Bajaj finance by 0.67 pc to Rs 7720 and Titan by 0.58 pc to Rs 2591.35.
The Mid Cap fell by 0.05 pc while Small Cap rose by 0.01 pc.
In 30 scrips, 23 declined while 7 advanced.
The Asian Market remained weak as in Japan, the Nikkei 225 fell 2.9 per cent, South Korea’s Kospi slipped 1.2 per cent, and Australia’s S&P/ASX200 eased 2.7 per cent.
Even in Europe, the pan-European Stoxx 600 dropped around 1.2 per cent.
