Bhubaneswar, Dec 1  :The Steel Melting Shop-I (SMS-I) of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has set a new record producing 1878 tonnes of Crude Steel on a single day on Wednesday.
RSP sources said the department equaled the previous best record of making 27 blows to achieve the feat.
It also clocked the best sequence of 29 heats in the process. The Total Metal Input (TMI) for the month of November was the all-time best of 1131 kg per tonne.
RSP Executive Director (Works) S R Suryawanshi who visited the Department on Thursday congratulated the collective.
Commending the unflinching efforts of the collective, Suryawanshi urged the employees to strive further and make all-out efforts to meet the set targets.
It is noteworthy that SMS-I, commissioned in the early sixties, was the pioneer in LD steel-making in India. The unit has the distinction of making special grade steel which finds application in a wide range of defence and other important projects.
