Kolkata, Feb 17: When the eyes of millions get moist before bidding the final farewell to the great singer & composure Bapi Lahiri, Bengali film and music fraternity on mourned the demise of the legendary music composer ,who died in Mumbai earlier in the day.
All the large portrait of Bappi Lahiri were kept at the cultural complex Rabindra Sadan as the state mourned the death of the music director whose compositions enthralled the audiences of both Bengali and Hindi cinema. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamara Banerjee was among those who paid floral tributes to Lahiri. Actor Prosenjit Chatterjee in a tweet called Lahiri a ‘gem’. “We’ve lost another gem… Shocked beyond words! Heartfelt condolences to Bappi da’s family, friends and well-wishers.” “Bappida composed music for many of my films and they were all hits. He leaves a permanent void,” Chatterjee said.
Actor-cum-politician Dev Adhikari said, “Rest in Peace Bapi Da ….” Actor Jeet in a tweet said, “Extremely saddening to know about the sudden demise of #BappiDa… My condolences to his family and fans. Your music will live on forever sir.”
Actress Rituparna Sengupta tweeted, “The loss of a big brother, a guide like you is something that can never be imagined. Am heart broken.. I lost my family member.” “You are an inspiration to the whole world. You were full of faith, courage & strength. You’d never be forgotten. Bappida you will be with us forever,” she added. Actress Mimi Chakraborty shared Lahiri’s picture and wrote, “RIP Legend.”
Singer-cum-politician Babul Supriyo said, “Yet to come to terms with the demise of legendary vocalist Sandhya Mukherjee•True she was 90 but her motherly presence was comforting for the entire Bengal Musical Fraternity, an Irreparable loss & now we wake up to the untimely demise of another Legend, Bappi Lahiri at just 69.” Born on November 27, 1952, Alokesh Lahiri, popularly known as Bappi Lahiri, popularised the use of synthesised disco music in Indian cinema.
He delivered major box office successes in Bengali films like Amar Sangee, Asha O Bhalobasha, Aamar Tumi, Amar Prem, Mandira, Badnam, Raktelekha, Priya and so on. He was popular in the 1980s and 1990s with soundtracks of films such as Wardat, Disco Dancer, Namak Halaal, Sharaabi, Naukar Biwi Ka, Naya Kadam, Masterji, Bewafai, Maqsad, Suraag, Insaaf Main Karoongaa, Dance Dance, Commando, Saaheb, Adhikar, Aaj Ka M.L.A. Ram Avtar.
