79th Golden Globe Awards To Go Virtual, By No Presence Whatsoever
New Delhi, Jan 5 : The 79th Golden Globe Awards, set for January 10, is going to be a new experience, in that it will be marked by zero press, zero audience, zero celebrities and no red carpets, a sign indicative of the severity and the scare created by Covid-19.
Furthermore, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is currently declared personae non gratae. The event will further highlight the philanthropic efforts of HFPA with the winners to be announced within a 90-minute intermittent period of gathering at the Beverly Hilton, the HFPA revealed on Tuesday.
While it still yet remains unclear if people will at all be able to watch the ceremony, and if so how, according to the sources of Hollywood Reporter, a live stream is possible. But there are also likely going to be several legal hurdles in broadcasting anything about the ‘Golden Globe Awards’ without the participation of NBC, as it owns the broadcasting rights for the Golden Globe Awards.
According to reports, NBC is decidedly not participating in this year’s Globes, partly due to the fallout of last February’s Los Angeles Times exposé about the HFPA’s conduct and demographic makeup.
The resulting uproar led many Hollywood constituencies to boycott the organisation and prompted NBC to decline airing the 2022 Awards show ceremony.
In whatever form this year’s gathering occurs, HFPA grantees and Kyle Bowser, senior Vice-President NAACP Hollywood Bureau, will discuss their work with the organisation throughout the ceremony.
