Yogi’s Minister Gets 1 yr Jail, Released On Bail
Kanpur, Aug 8: Rakesh Sachan, Cabinet Minister in Yogi Adityanath government, was on Monday sentenced to one year imprisonment and penalty of Rs 1,500 by a local court here in a 31-year-old Arms Act case.
The court later granted Sachan, who is Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Minister, bail on personal bond and two bonds of Rs 20,000 each on his bail application. Prior to this Sachan, who was facing accusations from the last two days, surrendered before the court of Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Yadav.
During the closed door hearing the court heard the arguments of both sides. Ramendra Katiyar, counsel of Sachan, requested the court to show leniency and give minimum punishment.
After hearing the arguments of both the sides the ACCM court held Sachan guilty and sentenced him to one year imprisonment and penalty of Rs 1,500. Sachan’s counsel requested 15 days time to appeal in the higher court and a copy of the order.
The court while granting time approved the bail application and gave bail after furnishing a personal bond along with two sureties of Rs 20,000 each.
Sachan was facing trail in a 1991 case in which a rifle was recovered from his possession in Naubasta locality and he failed to show its licence to the police.
It may be noted that the court was scheduled to pronounce the judge on August 6 and the minister even reached the court. But he disappeared after the court reserved its order. Reader of the court Kamini even filed a complaint with the police accusing Sachan of fleeing with the original copy of the order.
Taking cognizance of the incident Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had sought a report from the District Magistrate in this regard. The police officials also said that a case had been lodged on the complaint of the court employee.
