What went wrong with these 80 plus Romeos! Police arrests an octogenarian and a doctor on separate rape
Agartala, Nov 18 : An octogenarian and a medical officer of Teliamura sub-divisional hospital of Khowai district have been arrested on the charge of two separate rape incidents including a minor in the last 24 hours.
While the doctor was sent to 14 days of judicial custody on the rape charge of a nurse, the 80-year-old man was produced to a local court on Friday seeking his police remand for rapping a minor girl.
Police said a nurse complained to Teliamura police station on Wednesday against the medical officer of the hospital Dr Surajit Das hails from Melaghar of Sonamura that she was raped repeatedly for 10 days in the quarters of the accused with the promise of a wedding but later denied.
According to the allegation, Surajit has developed a relationship recently with a nurse posted at Agartala Govt Medical College, and from the beginning, she was persuaded to go for a physical relationship.
The accused finally called her to his quarters telling her to finalize the marriage and thereafter she was sexually abused, the victim told police.
She alleged that on the first day Das had a little discussion over the marriage and afterwards he refused to continue the talk further, when the nurse asked him to marry her on Nov 15 last, Surajit allegedly had attempted to kill her by pressing a pillow on the face but, somehow, she managed to escape, the victim reported to the police.
Based on the victim’s complaints, police arrested the accused doctor from the hospital on Thursday and sent him to court, where he was sent to jail for two weeks.
In another incident, police arrested an 80-year- old man on Thursday on the charge of raping a minor girl who would be like his granddaughter at East Sonatala Village under Khowai police station.
Reportedly, an elderly woman went to East Sonatala Village on Thursday morning to break bricks. She left her minor granddaughter at home.
At noon, when the woman went home, she did not find her granddaughter. The minor girl came out crying from the house of Basudev Tanti (80) and later she narrated the incident to her parents and relatives.
The police registered a case under section 376(A)(B) of IPC and 4 of the POCSO Act.
