Was that justice delayed or denied! Court convicts rapist as victim dies of cancer awaiting justice

Mumbai, Oct 28 : A special court hearing cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, handed out 10 years rigorous imprisonment to a man accused of raping a minor as the victim died of cancer pending trial.

The Pocso Court considered the child’s testimony before a magistrate recorded after the incident in 2019, when she was eight years old.

The court also relied on other evidences, including the medical report which supported the allegation of sexual assault and the victim mother’s testimony before it.

The mother had narrated what she had learned from the child about the incident.

In a rare instance, the court also directed the mother be given compensation, which is usually given to the victim.
