Kendrapara, March 23: Two masons from Murshidabad area in West Bengal were arrested and jailed for raping a 19-year-old girl on March 20 last. IIC of Rajnagar police station Tapan Kumar Nayak on Wednesday said the accused forcibly took the victim girl while she was returning to her house on Balipatana village road under Rajnagar police station limit. They then raped her one after another.
The two accused were working as masons in a building construction site under a contractor at Balisahipatana village. They have been identified as Rahul Mandal (21) of Mirzapur village and 19-year old, Pobad Mandal, Deuli, under Raghunathganj under Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The IIC said the accused tried to kill the victim girl after the gang rape by strangulating her neck with her chunari. As the victim girl screamed for help the two accused fled from the spot. The girl was rescued in an unconscious condition by her family members.
The victim girl later lodged an FIR at Rajnagar police station. Acting on the FIR the police arrested the two masons on March 21 and later produced them before the Rajnagar JMFC court on Monday. The court remanded them into Jail Custody after rejecting their bail petitions, Nayak said. UNI
