Pune, Aug 6: A senior IAS officer was sentenced to five years rigorous imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl for three years and molesting three other minor girls by the district and sessions court here on Saturday.
The 1998-batch promoted IAS officer was posted as director-general of the Maharashtra Council of Agricultural Education and Research (MCAER), Pune.
After the incident came to light, the government had placed IAS officer Maruti H Sawant under suspension.
The case was registered with Sinhagad police station in March 2015.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10 lakh on him, police said.
