SC To Hear Bail Quashing Of Mishra On Coming Tuesday
New Delhi, March 11 : Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear on March 15, Tuesday, on a petition filed by the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, seeking cancellation of bail granted to Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister- Ajay Mishra “Teni” and sought urgent listing and hearing in the matter. The case was supposed to be heard today by the Supreme Court bench, but it wasn’t listed for hearing Friday.
It forced advocate Prashant Bhushan, lawyer of the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, to once again mention the case, today before the Supreme Court for urgent listing and hearing it. The bench on Monday had agreed to hear the application for hearing today, but it is not listed today, and so it may be listed at least coming Monday, Bhushan told the Supreme Court. Bhushan claimed before the Supreme Court that a witness in Lakhimpur Kheri violence case was allegedly attacked last night. On this ground also, Bhushan sought urgent hearing of his petition (filed on behalf of family of 4 deceased farmers) seeking cancellation of bail granted to Ashish Mishra.
The three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, headed by the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, assured Bhushan that it will hear the petition on coming Tuesday, March 15. The Allahabad High Court had granted bail to Mishra, overseeing evidence tampering etc, Bhushan claimed. The family members of the deceased farmers, who were allegedly mowed down by a car belonging to Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son, Ashish Mishra in Lakhimpur Kheri have knocked the doors of the Supreme Court on February 21, challenging the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Mishra. The plea, filed through lawyer, Bhushan, said the family members have been forced to approach the Top court, since the State of Uttar Pradesh has failed to file the appeal against the Allahabad High Court order granting bail to Ashish Mishra.
